After moving around traveling, climbing, and all of the other amazing things that seem to go along with my lifestyle we are settled for a bit. We have a 6 month lease in Glenwood Springs, Colorado!!!YEAH…. SIX MONTHS!!!! Dang, I know… long time in one spot, but the best part of having this kind of stability is to make trips from a home location. It is pretty hard to break the traveling addiction and well… we gotta feed the habit. But, in the meantime it feels GREAT to have internet, a bed, a couch, and the comfort of coming home after a long day at the crag.

It is time to simplify my life a little more with packing my things again. Most of my clothes get put away into storage, the essentials are narrowed down to the bare minimum of things like climbing gear, food, water, and computer stuff. We are cutting off ties to any house, apartment or living space… YUP… back on the ROAD!!!!
…I have been pretty much obsessing over my newest project here in Southern Utah. It is located in the Hurricave which sits in the back yard (literally) of the house I am living in. This cave is not the best stone and it is by no means one of the best crags in the USA, but it does however hold some of the hardest routes in the area and has a style all of its own. The style of this cave is steep and gymnastic which is my favorite style by FAR!!! As a climber everyone has a terrain or an angle that suits them well and this is mine.
If the RRR were around when I was a young climber, I would have made it my annual event. I think my parents would have supported the endeavor and paid for it! It’s such a positive gathering with so much to offer to any climber out there. I think the one thing that draws people and what would have drawn me in are the clinics. They aren’t boring hands-on clinics on better footwork or techniques for low angle stone. No! Trust me! It is geared toward the person who wants to learn from the best and most famous climbers like Tommy
Caldwell, Cedar Wright, Conrad Anker, Alex Honnold and even ME!!!! The clinics are from the best and delivered to you right at the cliff for the entire day. Think about it…how many events do this sort of thing with THAT may professional and very knowledgeable climbers? NONE!!! Absolutely none. This is the time of the yaer where us professional climbers share what we know best for an entire weekend. For the person interested in “Fast and Light Multi-Pitch Climbing”…there is a clinic for it. There are clinics for women who want to climb like women!!! Whatever that means!! Chris Lindner offers a course in taking big falls. He sets you up in the air and you do nothing except take HUGE falls all day…Totally safe of course. There is the “Photog Course” which teaches climbing photography tactics. There are SO many options it’s overwhelming. In fact most people have to return the next year just so they can catch that one clinic they didn’t take because they were in another one…HA!

There is entertainment such as slideshows, music, a party, a HUGE DINNER!!! Aw man…it is all in the sun, all in a beautiful place and all withour community of climbers. I am pretty psyched for this year’s event and I will see you there I hope!!! It’s going to be a blast!
I have returned from my amazing four and a half month trip to Europe. I am pretty glad to be back on familiar terrain and to be able to speak to anyone at any moment. It can be a big challenge if you aren’t multilingual I have to say. It’s funny how you just get used to staying a little more quiet than usual if you are like me and only really speak English. UGH! It is great to be home.
HEY HAY HAAYYYEEE!!!! Hope you are all having a great end-of-summer-season! I am writing from southern France, where I’ve been for three weeks now climbing in two areas and now settling in one called Gorges Du Loup, which is right near Nice. This place is
COMPLETELY beautiful in every way. The beach is a treat, offering pale-blue water that is actually warm and easy to post up in. I am used to the frigid New England coast, which is pretty much unbearable due to the temperature, unless you are wearing a wet suit.
The cliffs here are insane! They cover the hillsides of the gorge and have some of the most impressive features and colors I have ever seen. And all of this is enjoyed even more with our living quarters. Check this out!…. We are renting a chalet at a cam
pground 8 minutes drive from the crag. The chalet costs 195 Euro per week and split by four people is cheaper than camping. The camping area has a bar, pool table, ping-pong table, a full size pool, laundry, tennis courts, security, a swimming hole in the river, a restaurant, sunshine and very nice people from all over the world.
I know most people choose to camp, rough it and keep it cheap, but this is truly an economic way of traveling. The money I have saved in gas, fuel for cooking, energy from sleeping well, and having ALL of the essentials for a living situation has me sold on the concept of renting chalets on a regular basis. Of course four people or so is best when considering this set-up. A “gite” is the usual term in France for a “house for rent” (google “gite” if you are interested). They are cheaper and offer accommodations for many people. Plus it’s a lot of fun being social and having friends around to get all PSYCHED with, rap ab
out climbing, music, and drink beer with in the evening. It’s the life!
This is just a little beta I figured’s worth sharing toward the goal of saving money, being comfortable, and having an enjoyable set-up for traveling. After all….we HAVE to enjoy ourselves or what’s the point?!!!
I am one lucky ambassador and that is REAL. Gregory Packs specially made this Z35r for me. I chose a color palette and they put in the order. I have never had a company offer me this sort of thing and actually come through with it. It is usually an ordeal, quite pricey, and not worth the time…. BIG thanks to Gregory. You are like Family.
…that was the catch phrase of my time in Sacramento while shooting for the new product line. Along with Tim Kemple and BckWld we made some amazing media content of the latest and most amazing packs of Gregory’s. The Fusion line is something I am VERY proud of and would like to get EVERYone psyched up and ready for a very innovational and functional pack. I helped design these bad boys and I am VERY pleased with the turn out. Here are some photos of our time in Sacramento, Tahoe, and the Bay. What a trip!!!!!

Right before I left for this amazing trip I took down the first ascent of an amazing boulder problem I called Bovice. Enjoy!!! Bovice from Joey Kinder on Vimeo.
