We spent a couple of days hanging out with Gregory sponsored climber, Joe Kinder in his Hurricane, Utah pad before heading off to the Red Rocks Rendezvous. Here’s a quick recap of why Joe lives in Hurricane, Utah
Check out more about Joe at Joe Kind Kid dot com.
Gregory’s George McCloskey is our go-to customer service guru. He almost knows as much about the packs as Wayne Gregory himself and much more about the day-to-day deal at Gregory. When a customer or a dealer has a question, George is the man. That’s him on the right: I asked him for a headshot, he sent me a faceshot…
Ask George: Do you have any cool Gregory stickers and will you give them to me?
George: Yes. We have var-i-ety of sweet designs that come and go, kind of limited edition. I’m here for you, baby…send me an email and I’ll send you some stickers: gmc <a> gregorypacks.com.
Send us a pic of where you stick your stickers and we’ll stick it up on Gregorygoesthere.com
Gregory is supporting the Green Living Project, a 5-year project traveling around the world to document successful examples of sustainable or ‘green living’ projects. GLP will study and report on projects administered by leading conservation organizations (e.g. Conservation International, World Wildlife Fund, African Wildlife Foundation), tour companies (e.g. CC Africa), tourism boards (e.g. Kenya Tourism), and resorts/lodges, etc.
The crew has started in Africa and are posting updates on their blog. We’ll keep the RSS feed of their dispatches in our sidebar. GLP is an interesting and adventurous project. The results of this expedition will provide us with insight and ideas behind a smaller footprint.
As Bill Cosby says, “…intellectuals study things that people do naturally”. And so it is with lacing your shoes, or boots for that matter. What some might consider a very natural activity has been “studied” by the American Orthopedic Foot and Ankle Society, and they have concluded that “certain lacing techniques for shoes can prevent injuries, alleviate pain, and relieve foot problems”.
They have documented these various techniques in their “Lacing Techniques for a Proper Shoe Fit”. (The Propet shoe company has the info with more detailed illustrations.)
The AOFAS’ site contains a wealth of footwear information, including:
- How to select the right athletic footwear for you.
- How to Tape a Toe
- And a guide to Foot Fitness for Life
Hit the Trail also offers boot lacing tips that address the toe-mashing impacts from “…the relentless downhill grades ” in Grand Canyon country.

Gregory Mountain Products, the three-decade market leader in backpacks for the full range of outdoor activities, this month won an Editors’ Choice Award from Backpacker Magazine for two of it newest mid-size backpacks, the newly redesigned Baltoro 70 and the women’s specific Deva 60.
In addition, Gregory’s Z30 pack was named ‘Best All Around’ daypack in Backpacker’s annual Gear Guide, in the March issue. The magazine noted “their most finicky tester called the Z30 “darn close to the perfect daypack for general duty.”
The Editors’ Choice Awards are given for outstanding innovation in product design, materials and/or performance. Given annually since 1993, the awards honor the products that Backpacker editors have chosen as the best of the year based on months of trail testing by teams of highly experienced hikers and climbers. The award will be officially announced to the general public in the magazine’s April issue, on newsstands March 11.
