Thought we’d share a good review we got on a respected UK-based outdoor blog.
After logging many miles, the tes
ter’s conclusion: ‘The carry is the important thing, and here it’s right on the money.’ We couldn’t have said it any better.
The Gregory philosophy has been and continues to be that a couple of extra ounces in the right spot (the suspension) for the right reason (better load-transfer, which means better carrying, which means more comfort at the end of the day) can make your bag carry that much better over the span of long days on the trail. And that will go a lot farther toward energy savings and feeling better at the end of each day than saving weight at all costs.
Not that lightweight isn’t important. It is very important, that’s what the Z and Jade series is all about, and lightweight is in for a very good reason. But we’ve always maintained that there are places to cut weight (bag design, fabric, etc.), and places where a little extra weight gives the suspension the oomph it needs to achieve better load transfer. Like anything, there’s a balance to be struck between lightweight and how a pack carries, and when you trim too much, you can - in some cases - sacrifice load transfer and support.
In instances where our bags weigh a little more than some others on the market, it’s usually because we’ve put that oomph into the suspension in a certain way or place that we believe makes it carry weight better than the competition.
Put it to the test. Load 25 pounds into the Z30 and then try that in someone else’s 30-liter pack and see what you think.
It’s kinda techy sounding, but it’s the reason we’re in business. And the reason Gregory packs carry so well.
